New York Judgment Interest Calculator

A New York money judgment earns statutory interest from the date it is entered — 9% per year for most judgments (CPLR 5004), and 2% for consumer debt judgments entered on or after April 30, 2022. Interest is simple, not compounded. This calculator does the math creditors and debtors both need.

The Rules

  • Post-judgment interest runs at the statutory rate from entry until the judgment is paid (CPLR 5003, 5004). New York judgments are enforceable for 20 years — interest keeps running the whole time.
  • Consumer debt exception: for judgments against natural persons arising out of consumer debt, the rate is 2% for judgments entered on or after April 30, 2022 (and applies prospectively to earlier unpaid consumer judgments from that date).
  • Pre-judgment interest (CPLR 5001) is a separate calculation from the date the claim accrued in contract and property cases — often worth more than the claim's owner realizes.

Interest only matters if you can collect. See our guide to collecting on a judgment in New York.

Holding a Judgment Nobody Has Paid?

We enforce New York judgments — restraining notices, income executions, turnover proceedings, and finding the assets debtors think are hidden. The interest keeps running while we do.
